Accomodations:

The Torwood Lodge sits majestically above the Peace Reach arm of Williston Lake, and is nestled in amongst 300 acres of private Aspen forest. Not another soul around for miles and miles, just the wildlife, the lake, the mountains, blue skies and northern lights.

Torwood has eight beautifully decorated suites within the lodge. For those who wish more private accommodations, you will find adjacent to the lodge a beautiful two-bedroom Mountain Chalet. Made of logs and fully furnished, this chalet offers our guests two private bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a loft equipped with a hide-a-bed. A kitchen, living room with outside, wrap around deck, and a laundry room completes this beautiful 'home away from home'.

Each room has free Internet access and private bathrooms. We can accommodate sixteen guests in-house based on double occupancy, with four to six guests in the Chalet. A hearty buffet breakfast is served each morning and evening snacks and a full three to four course dinner is served either in the dining room or outside on its wrap-around deck where you can enjoy your meal surround by a commanding view of the lake and nearby mountains.

The bar offers its guests a fine selection of wines and carries a great selection of premium liquors as well as soft drinks and juices.

Sample Itinerary:

3 Day Heli Wildlife Adventure (Friday - Monday)

Day 1

Start your trip in the welcome lounge of North Caribou Air, at the Calgary International Airport. Because you are taking a charter aircraft, no long waiting lines or bothersome security checks. Show up a half-hour before your flight. The flight departs at 2:00 PM, allowing US visitors ample time to fly into Calgary that morning for a seamless connection.

Flying time to Hudson’s Hope is only 1.5 hours and during the flight you will be following the Rocky Mountains northward. Upon landing, Rainer Mass, the lodge owner and host, will be there to greet you and drive you the pleasant 20 miles to Torwood Lodge.

With refreshment in hand, your hosts will fill you in with details on helicopter safety and the day to come. A casual gourmet dinner is served family style. Afterwards, you have time for camaraderie by the fire, maybe a sauna or whirlpool, and a great night's sleep.

Days 2 and 3

Breakfast is at 8:00. The first helicopter leaves at 9:00 (the aircraft seats 4 guests and a guide), making the short but dramatic trip to the timberline. Be prepared to experience a land as it always was. A wilderness and solitude that only a select few if us have the privilege to witness.

These days are spent hiking, exploring and learning about the land and its natural inhabitants. Enjoy the picnic lunch whereever the guide and the day take you. Expect to see Grizzlies, Stone Sheep and Mountain Goat. The elusive Mountain Caribou may also be found.

At day’s end, fly back to the lodge. Hors d'oeuvres, soft drinks, tea, and good old Canadian mountain water await us. You can take advantage of the hot tub and sauna, or browse the grounds before that night’s chef creation. Owing to the cool, dry nights, you are assured of another great night’s repose.

After breakfast, there is a half-day’s exploration by helicopter. Lunch will be served at the lodge. Check out time is 2:30 and then a short drive along the Peace Reach to the airstrip at Hudson’s Hope. There you will meet your charter for the return flight to Calgary.

NOTE: Most guests stay overnight in Calgary on their return and fly back home first thing in the morning. We can make any additional travel arrangements for you.
