The spectacular Bobbie Burns Range takes its name from the great Scottish poet. ("Gie me ae spark o' Nature's fire," he wrote, "That's a' the learning I desire." The old silver and gold miners who chipped away in these great peaks were a surprisingly bookish, nature-loving lot.) Exploration of the Bobbie Burns began with a survey party in the early 1900s. Decades later the great J. Monroe Thorington, author of the classic Where the Clouds Can Go and A Climber's Guide to the Canadian Rockies did the first serious climbing in the range.

Bobbie Burns Lodge is located 194 km (120 miles) west of Banff in the Purcell Mountains. The spectacular Bobbie Burns Range takes its name from the great Scottish poet. Like most lodges in the Canadian Rockies, Bobbie Burns accommodates 44 Heli-Hikers and climbers, in this case in 24 double/twin rooms, all with private bath.

Bobbie Burns has a outdoor whirlpool with spectacular views, a climbing wall, sauna, game room, shop, and a big, welcoming fireplace in the charming, rustic common area. Its extensive wine cellar is one of the world's best in a wilderness lodge.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1

7:00 am Pick-up from your hotel in Banff for the transfer motorcoach to the helipad. Snacks and beverages available on board.

7:30 am Depart Banff – CMH Office.

8:20 am Depart Lake Louise – Post Hotel.

10:00 am Arrival at the helipad for your first helicopter ride to the Bobbie Burns Lodge. Once you arrive at the lodge, you are outfitted with all the necessary hiking gear before sitting down to a hearty lunch is in the dining room. After a helicopter safety talk, set off to breathtaking mountain scenery for your first heli-hiking experience. At the end of the day, return by helicopter to the lodge where snacks await you. There is free time to relax on the deck, read in the lounge or take a dip in the whirlpool before dinner.

7:00 pm Dinner is served by your hosts, followed with delectable desserts prepared by our own pastry chef. The evening is yours to get to know your fellow guests or to spend as you like, before retiring to the comforts of your room. Overnight at the BOBBIE BURNS LODGE.

Day 2, 3

7:30 am The daily stretch class begins. Warm up your muscles for a full day of heli-hiking!

8:00 am Breakfast buffet.

9:00 am The first helicopter flight leaves the lodge. Spend the day exploring massive glaciers, turquoise lakes and high mountain ridges with magnificent views. Enjoy a picnic or barbecue style lunch surrounded by spectacular untouched scenery. Return by helicopter to the lodge later in the afternoon for snacks and beverages before dinner.

7:00 pm Dinner begins! Enjoy the company of different guests each night as you sample the chef's choice of the evening. After dessert and coffee, share stories and experiences of the day with your newfound friends and staff. Visit the retail shop where you'll find an excellent array of clothing and hiking-related items for purchase. Make an appointment with our masseuse (not included) or enjoy the peace and quiet on the deck as you watch the alpenglow settle on the mountain peaks, before retiring for the night. Day 4

8:00 am Breakfast buffet begins.

9:00 am First flight out of the lodge.

11:00 am Departure from the Bobbie Burns Helipad by motorcoach. Boxed lunch provided for return trip.

12:30 pm Arrive in Lake Louise – Post Hotel.

1:30 pm Arrive in Banff – CMH Office.

4:00 pm Arrive at the Calgary Airport or Delta Calgary Airport hotel.
